Auto-optimization is a feature on Samsung phones that helps fix crashing apps, lagging interface, and more. Here’s how to enable it.

If you own a Samsung phone, chances are it has experienced some issues during its lifetime. Perhaps the battery was draining too fast, apps were crashing, fast charging wasn’t working, or something similar.
These issues are more common on budget and mid-range Samsung phones than flagships. Anyway, there is a built-in tool you can use to resolve these issues fairly quickly.
What is auto optimization on Samsung phones?
Auto optimization is a device care feature that helps check if your Samsung phone is working properly and optimizes it to improve performance and eliminate errors.
The feature was introduced as a way to get around common Android phone issues like app crashes, flickering screen, lagging UI, and more.
To enable the automatic optimization feature, go to Settings > Battery and device care > Automatic optimization and activate Reboot when necessary. Please note that we are using a Samsung phone running on One UI 5; if your device doesn’t have the update yet, the steps may vary a bit.
Enabling this feature gives your phone the permission to automatically perform a reboot when not in use. Doing this closes background apps and removes any temporary cache files that might be causing the problem; Don’t worry, this doesn’t affect your personal files or data within apps.
It is a good practice to restart your phone at least once a week. If you want to be more careful, you can take a look at your phone’s reboot history by going to Settings > Battery and device care and tapping the Care Report icon (next to the Search icon). There, you can see the last time your phone automatically rebooted.
