JLab releases an epic new mechanical keyboard

First of all, this isn’t us calling JLab’s new mechanical keyboard “epic.” JLab’s company branding scheme falls into the tiers, with Epic at the top. As such, it is known as the Epic Mechanical Keyboard. It’s an interesting name choice, for sure.

However, having had some hands-on time with the Epic Mechanical Keyboard at CES 2023, it’s a good start for JLab in the competitive mechanical keyboard market. JLab wants Epic Mechanical Keyboard to be a useful tool for those who want to use a mechanical keyboard at the office but don’t want the characteristic clicking noise to irritate their coworkers.

The Epic mechanical keyboard will use Kailh’s Silent Brown switches to keep noise levels down. Kailh Silent Brown switches have a damping system that reduces the overall noise of each keystroke. Additionally, Kailh’s Silent Brown switches are lightly lubricated, which helps reduce switch movement, resulting in less friction and therefore less effort and noise when typing.

Interestingly, the Epic mechanical keyboard has a very low profile. It is also very lightweight compared to many other mechanical keyboards. Adding a steel plate or additional damping layers would help dampen noisy switches further, but perhaps we’ll see that in future iterations. Of course, there are other ways to mute your mechanical keyboard.

Elsewhere, the Epic mechanical keyboard is Bluetooth compatible and comes with a 2.4GHz USB dongle for ultra-low latency connectivity. The 104-key keyboard is powered by a 2,000mAh battery and also has white LED lighting to help you type in darker environments.

Given the expected launch price of $129.99 (in Q3 2023), it will be interesting to see how JLab’s Epic Mechanical Keyboard fares against some of the major mechanical keyboard competitors, some of which have a passionate and dedicated following.

Along with the mechanical keyboard, JLab has also launched new headsets, headsets, mice, and a handy wireless lavalier microphone, reinforcing its wide range of products. Many of these new products are expected to launch in Q3 2023, and we can’t wait to get our hands on them.
